Damon applied in June for a Australia hospitality Job with his partner Leah. HTE Internships will be placing Damon and Leah into Australia to start in August. We asked Damon some questions about why he applied and what he is most looking forward to in NZ. You can check out what he said below.

Why did you decide to apply for a hospitality placement abroad?

I have been in the restaurant industry my entire working life in every position possibly imaginable and have been many places throughout the years in the U.S. I have worked with people from all around the world, many of whom have been part of work-travel programs as well. It sounded like a great way to improve my resume, meet new people and learn about new cultures.

How do you think this will help you in the future?

I believe it will broaden my opportunities in the food and beverage industry locally and abroad. It will also be an educational experience which can only improve the way I look at life, work and people.

What are you most looking forward to in Australia?

Learning about different cultures, food, and people. I also find myself having a hard time when I’m not near the ocean so I will definitely be looking forward to that.

What do you hope to achieve/ learn during your time abroad?

i hope to network with people around the globe. I have been doing food and beverage since I was a teenager and no matter where the place has been I have always learned something from the people I have worked with. Whether it be about food, service, teamwork, or the way a restaurant works in general.

How do you think future employers will view your time abroad?

They will see a dedicated, hardworking person, who is willing to learn from others but yet bring ideas to the table as well. also, a hard team player who has rarely ever had any issues with anyone I have ever worked with including, but not exclusive to, managers, co-workers, and guests.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how excited are you?

I don’t think you could measure my excitement right now!
