.

Why did you decide to apply for a hospitality placement abroad?

Well, how could you pass up an opportunity to travel and work in hospitality? To be able to gain work experience and live in a country like New Zealand is a once an a life time opportunity. Meeting new and exciting people that can teach me about working in hospitality and hotel management is something I’m excited about pursuing.

.

How do you think this will help you in the future?

It is important to push yourself in whatever you do. Moving across the world to a new place, meeting new people and exposing yourself to different ideas, backgrounds and experiences outside of your personal comfort, I feel is the best way to experience life, regardless of your career goals. I‘m very interested in pursuing a career in hospitality and so this opportunity would allow me to gain some valuable work experience that would help develop a future for me in hotel management.

.

What are you most looking forward to in New Zealand?

I’ve never been able to travel to that part of the world before and so I’m excited about being able to experience what the unique culture has to offer. The food, the cultural identity, history…I want to experience it all. Being able to work in a place where a lot of people choose to vacation is also something I’d be very excited about.

.

What do you hope to achieve/ learn during your time abroad?

I hope to learn more about the differing styles of service and approaches to providing service in hospitality. I’m pretty new to the industry and so I’d be able to strengthen my abilities in customer service as well as broadening my knowledge of hospitality management. With the big learning curve I’d be able to bring to the table, I’m looking to gain an overall understanding of what it means to work in hospitality and present yourself and your product to the best of your ability.

.

How do you think future employers will view your time abroad?

To be able to say I went from not having much experience working in travel and hospitality to working in a resort/event setting in New Zealand would essentially speak for itself.. I believe that future employers would take into consideration the quality of service demanded by international events such as the Rugby World Cup an as well as my commitment to furthering my career in hospitality showcased in my decision to travel clear across the globe.

.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how excited are you?

An 11! I’m ready to go!
