Daniel applied in May for a New Zealand culinary placement. HTE Internships will be placing Daniel into New Zealand. We asked Daniel some questions about why he applied and what he is most looking forward to in NZ, you can check out what he said below.

.

Why did you apply for an internship abroad?

I have been to a few different countries in my life, never somewhere as far as New Zealand though. I see it as a whole new experience for me and an opportunity too good to turn down. It provides a new challenge and something different to going straight into work in the UK, by branching out into a different country with a different culture I feel this can do nothing but benefit me throughout my career.

.

Why do you think this will help you in the future?

I see it as there is no doubt this will help me in the future, gaining experience in a different kitchen half way round the world, where no doubt things will be different from working in the UK. This can only expand my knowledge and help me learn new things to push forward my career in the catering industry. The independence gained from living on my own will also help me to develop as a person as well as my career.

.

What are you most looking forward to in New Zealand?

I’m looking forward to the whole new culture that ill be living in, the country itself and how it differs so much to where I am now in the UK. The different working environments from which I’m used to and the different style of food over there, which can only be seen as a learning opportunity.

.

What do you hope to achieve/ Learn on your internship?

Overall I hope to learn a new range of skills and techniques, working in a different kitchen ill always be keeping my eyes open for different things to do and opportunities to learn. I want it to develop as a person as well as chef, and i can only see an experience as big as this doing nothing but.

.

How do you think future employers will view your time abroad?

I hope that this internship will help me to stand out as an individual, someone who is not afraid to push the boat out to expand my career. I want them to view me as someone who is willing to try something new and to show I am committed to what i am doing.

.

On a scale of 1-10, how excited are you?

Definitely a 10, something different, opportunities to learn new things, and travelling halfway around the world.
