Danielle applied in August for a Australia hospitality job placement to start in time for the Australian summer. We asked Danielle some questions about why she applied and what she is most looking forward to in Australia. You can check out what she said below.

Why did you decide to apply for a hospitality placement internship abroad?

There are so many places in the world I want to see and experience first hand! I’ve traveled to a few far away places, but never for more than a week or so at a time, never have I lived somewhere for an extended period of time and have gotten the opportunity to really learn about that place and its culture. This experience, being placed abroad, in Australia of all places, is a real dream. I am excited to gain experience and learn the ways of the industry abroad, as well as about the place itself.

How do you think this will help you in the future?

I know that living abroad will be challenging and an experience outside of my comfort zone, but these factors are exactly why I think I will learn and grow so much from this internship placement. An experience like this will help me think outside of the box with a global perspective and give me a whole new level of self-confidence in my personal life, as well as in the work place. I think future potential employers will be able to see this and it could only help me in my future career goals.

What are you most looking forward to in Australia?

Waking up everyday with a gorgeous view, walking outside to the warm weather (while at home it will be getting colder by the day), meeting new people everyday, and the huge sense of accomplishment I know I’ll feel at the end of the six months of my placement.

What do you hope to achieve/ learn on your internship abroad?

I really want to learn as much as I possibly can…about food and wine native to Australia and the different aspects that must be thought through in order to pull off a great event…I want to perfect my skills as well as learn new ones.

How do you think future employers will view your time abroad? Very positively. I think it is a unique experience to be able to bring to the table. The opportunity to work abroad provides much more than work experience, it provides life experience as well.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how excited are you?

Definitely a 10! I can’t wait to be on the plane and on my way over!
