Alfie applied for a Australia hospitality internship programme to start in 2012. We asked Alfie some questions about why he applied and what he is most looking forward to in Australia. You can check out what he said below.

I am currently 18 years of age and studying a bachelor’s degree in Event Management at Leeds Metropolitan University, UK.

I have always had such a strong passion for organising events in the hospitality industry after receiving a high grade in GCSE catering and also working for an established events catering company.

From a young age I have had a strong interest in working/living overseas especially in Australia and therefore having the opportunity to apply for a hospitality internship in Australia was an extremely exciting prospect.

I decided to apply for the internship with HTE as I feel that it will build upon the skills I already have and also will give me the chance to pick up new skills from a different perspective. Also from reading the HTE website I found that a lot of help and assistance is provided which gives me more confidence and assurance.

Why did you decide to apply for a hospitality placement internship abroad?

I feel that working in the hospitality industry in Australia will benefit me hugely as not only will it give me a once in a lifetime opportunity but it will provide me with a stronger knowledge of the hospitality industry in general and from an international point of view. Also it will give me the chance to cater for a diverse range of people which will provide me with life skills.

What are you most looking forward to in Australia?

I am mostly looking forward to working in a completely different environment, with different people. From working in a hospitality internship in Australia I hope to achieve an extensive knowledge and skills of managing and working in hospitality, also to explore different ways of working and incorporating the best methods for when I return to the UK or where ever I decide to reside.

How do you think future employers will view your time abroad?

I think future employers will see this experience as invaluable to their business and hope that this will give me fantastic career development opportunities.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how excited are you?

I feel that I definitely reach 10 as I am overly excited about flying out and working in Australia and meeting new people.
