Briony applied for our new New Zealand hospitality internship programme to start 2012. We currently have Briony’s CV’s with a number of New Zealand’s top hotels. We asked Briony some questions about why she applied and what she is most looking forward to in Australia. You can check out what she said below.

.

Why did you decide to apply for an internship abroad?

I’ve worked in the hospitality industry for the past 3 years and have learnt that I have a passion for working with people either as a team or individually. To me, providing customer satisfaction is an important part of my job and I feel proud to deliver that memorable experience to a customer. I have always wanted to travel and I specifically chose a Hospitality Management Degree Course that included International studies. Now I have an ideal opportunity to put my experience and skills into good practice and to build on those skills in a country that I have never visited before.

.

How do you think this will help you in the future?

Employers are looking increasingly for experienced employees, so to have global experience in the hospitality field will be a great advantage. I feel with the experience I have gained through a similar high-end hospitality establishment I will be able to demonstrate my skills and abilities as well as learning new transferable skills increasing my future employability. HTE Internships offered me the best program for studying abroad in New Zealand and after searching and writing many emails to other companies across the country, HTE stood out to be the best option, with their inclusive visa and organised transfer and accommodation. With the clear information given by HTE Internships, I feel comfortable and confident that I can rely on them for a truly great experience of working abroad.

.

What are you most looking forward to in New Zealand?

I am particularly looking forward to the challenge of being somewhere totally different for a whole year and experiencing a new and different culture to me, as well as meeting and working with new people. But of course, I am also looking forward to aspects of New Zealand including the vineyards New Zealand has to offer as well as the famous sun, sea and sand.

.

What do you hope to achieve/ learn on your internship abroad?

I really want to get as much experience out of this placement as is possible. I am looking forward to seeing how the hospitality industry works in another part of the world and to widening my knowledge and skills. Ideally I’d like to be able to prove myself wherever I am placed so I am able to learn the dynamics of a successful team as well as observing the valuable responsibilities that a managerial role needs to implicate into the work environment within an organisation and perhaps have the opportunity to do this myself.

.

How do you think future employers will view your time abroad?

I hope that they will see from my choice of placement that I am serious about wanting a career in hospitality management. Working abroad will demonstrate to organisations that I am mature, independent and confident, and can adapt easily to new situations.

.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how excited are you?

This is what I have always wanted which is why I chose an International Hospitality course and I am really excited at the prospect of working in New Zealand for a year, so I guess it’s 10 but with a bit of apprehension thrown in.
