New Zealand Food & Beverage Internships – Job/ Position Description


Below is a typical food and beverage position description for a New Zealand 4 or 5 star hotel.  Please note that some of the responsibilities listed are not pre-requisite to apply for this position, these are expected of you after you have completed your training or induction on the job.

Role scope

The objective of this role is to deliver the highest quality service.  To continually promote and sell the hotel amenities and services at every opportunity in a positive and friendly manner.


  • Deliver exceptional customer service to both and external and internal guests
  • Ensure a high quality F & B product is consistently being produced
  • Follow standards and procedures correctly, for each task
  • Adhere to hotel cash handling policies and procedures
  • Responsible for knowing your shift roster
  • To be able to use initiative and work without constant supervision
  • Have an understanding of hotel policies and procedures for sickness, holidays and fire etc
  • Always be aware of selling the department at every opportunity
  • Good understanding of food and beverage and the delivery of both
  • Understanding of menus, cooking techniques, able to describe dishes
  • Understanding of wines and others beverages, able to offer suggestions
  • Practice effective Host Responsibility to all guests
  • Focus on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) as detailed in your welcome pack
  • Lead by example in all work related interactions and occasions
  • Make eye contact, smile and approach guests immediately
  • Ensure all hotel standards are met and / or exceeded
  • Work in other areas of the hotel as requested
  • Follow the expectations and guidelines outlined in the Welcome Handbook

Health and Safety:

  • Comply with the Health & Safety policy statement and H&S policies.
  • Work in a safe manner, providing a safe workplace to all colleagues
  • Use protective/safety equipment wherever provided and required
  • Accurate and timely reporting of all hazards, incidents and work related injuries to your manager
  • Active participation with Health & Safety and expectations / encouragement of colleagues to participate
